There are five different types of sinks that you can install in your bathroom. All of them have advantages and disadvantages. Some are more appropriate for smaller bathrooms and some work better in larger spaces. Some are better suited to a modern home while other fit in better in a traditional or country style home. No matter how your home is decorated, you can find the perfect bathroom sink.

The first and most common type of sink is the bathroom vanity sink. Bathroom vanity sink sizes vary, but they are usually large sinks meant for daily use. This style of sink is the one that is mounted in a cabinet or vanity of some kind. You can have the sink mounted such that it is part of the countertop or you can have an undermounted sink that is mounted to the underside of the countertop. Vanity sinks often come with side by side his and her sinks.

The second kind of sink is the console sink. A console sink looks like a small table. They usually have two legs in the front and the back part of the sink is connected directly to the wall. These sinks are great for small bathrooms that still need some storage space because you can tuck a basket underneath the sink but still have that openness that creates space.

The third kind of bathroom sink is the vessel sink. Bathroom vessel sinks are basins that sit on top of the counter top. The basin can be shaped like a bowl or it can be square. The bathroom vessel, counter top, and stand for the vessel can be made out of anything, but granite, marble, and metal are common materials of construction. Vessel sinks are great for modern homes.

The fourth kind of bathroom sink is the pedestal sink. Pedestal sinks are sinks that sit on a single leg. This leg is usually thick and decorative and made out of the same material as the sink. The effect is that it is all one piece. Pedestal sinks are great for small bathrooms because they take up the least amount of room.

The last variety of bathroom sink is the wall mounted sink. You usually find this type of sink is public restrooms, but you can have them in your home as well. I would not recommend this style if you have small children who will be tempted to hang on the side of the sink and might pull it out of the wall.

Remodeling a bathroom can be a lot of fun and you can get quite creative when planning what you want your bathroom suite to look like. You have limited space so you definitely want to make the best use of it without compromising your style. You can change the entire layout or just simply change out fixtures. We’ll focus on three main areas of the bathroom which are the toilet, bathtub and sink. These items come in your basic white but they’re also available in a range of other colors as well.

Toilets

You can get purchase either a high volume or low volume flush. High volumes use about 3.5 to 8 gallons of water per flush while the low volume use only 1.6 gallons per flush. There’s also a hybrid version that offer a half flush for liquid waste and a full flush for solid waste. There are two parts to the toilet which are the tank and the bowl. Bowls are either oval or round shaped. The material is either ceramic, metal or acrylic. The toilet seats can also be heated and some even lift up automatically. Push button are quite popular because the button is located on top of the tank and its designed for smaller spaces. You may option to go with a flush handle if you’re trying to match other hardware located in your bathroom.

Bathtub

Steel bathtubs are cheaper than enameled or iron tubs but chip much more easily. Iron tubs are your best route but they are quite expensive and heavy but last much longer. Acrylics scratch easily but are light in weight. Additional options for tubs are either water jets or air bubbles.

Sinks

Sinks come are made of wood, glass, marble, ceramic and even natural stone. The most common type is ceramic. You can either have a wall mount, pedestal or cabinets with sink bowls.

Be sure to visit some your local home remodeling design centers to see which bathroom suite combination best fits your style.

With all the different styles of bath mixer taps on the market, it can be easy to pick your favorite without giving a thought to how it will work in the bathroom.

The homeowner who is remodeling or replacing taps needs to make sure their choices meet certain requirements, and these will vary depending on the project.

For the Bathroom Remodel

A remodel here is referred to as a completely new space. Fixtures, toilets, sinks and tubs will be taken out and replaced; walls may be moved and showers retiled, and so on.

Gather ideas for your new space in a scrapbook or folder and work with a professional contractor and designer. For the tub area, decide on a free-standing tub or one set into a surround.

If the unit is a stand alone, such as a Victorian Clawfoot tub, or Duravit porcelain model, there are two choices to supply the water. The first, if located close enough to a wall, is a wall-mounted tap with a long spout reach.

The second choice will have standing pipes, either finished or covered with finished sleeves, and rise up on the side or one end of the tub. The pipes supply hot and cold water and are connected to the faucet and handles they support.

A tub set into a surround has more options available, including Roman bath sets with or without a separate hand spray, and an endless array of traditional and streamlined wall-mounted faucets.

The Faucet Replacement

Unless your goal is to change the basin taps as well, match the bath mixer taps to the existing sink fixtures. For the easiest replacement, find an identical style that will fit into existing holes.

Some tub surrounds were not built with access panels, so installing a new tub set could require additional work and expense.

Always get a thorough estimate with all possible extras included, and you should have no regrets when your new bath taps are installed.

Waterproof bathroom wall panels have been around a long time. Their only original problem was looking extremely ugly and cheap. Most people took one look before buying ceramic tile instead. Now, however, there are beautiful waterproof panels that will enhance the appearance of your bathroom.

Waterproof shower wall panels have always made sense. They have fewer possible points of failure as long as the seams are properly sealed. They should function as a water barrier almost forever. They will make a bathroom tub/shower enclosure that looks great and will not need to be replaced every few years. No leaks, no mold, no mildew.

The new panels are sleek, modern looking, and easy to clean. Water beads up and runs off leaving the panels almost dry. You can get solid colors or patterns. Some of the most popular have a speckled appearance. You can choose matte or shiny finishes as well. Waterproof panels are made exactly like solid surface countertops, just thinner. You can even match the vanity top to your tub/shower enclosure. Walls behind the panels do not need to be perfect. Some people even install panels on top of existing ceramic tile. This is much easier than removing the old tile, resurfacing the wall, and last, putting up panels.

Doing the measurements for these panels is best left up to the professionals. They must be exact because the solid surface material is difficult to cut. Anyone who is reasonably handy can install these panels. They are simply glued to the wall. After the glue dries thoroughly, the seams are sealed or caulked. When the caulk is completely dry, the job is finished. Much less mess to clean up and it is a quick remodel job. Your bathroom never has to be completely out of service because of the remodeling in progress.

Buying apron sinks is a great idea if you want to have a traditionally decorated kitchen. However, the kitchen sink is something that’s used on a regular basis so you need to make sure you get the right one. This article will talk about some of the things you need to keep in mind when deciding which apron sink is right for you.

The material is one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make and not only because it affects how the sink looks. For example, stainless steel apron sinks are much more durable than other kinds and will last a long time. They are also relatively easy to clean. On the other hand, porcelain sinks usually look better.

Your budget should be decided before you start looking for a sink. There is a huge number of apron sinks available ranging from $500 to $3000. Without knowing the amount you have available to spend it’ll be difficult to look at all the different options. This budget should include the cost of getting the sink installed (i.e. delivery, plumbing, carpentry etc).

Usually the taps of an apron sink don’t go through the sink but instead the wood or other material surrounding it. You should work out exactly where the faucets are going to go before choosing a new sink.

The colour and design of the sink is also important. There are many different styles so it shouldn’t be difficult to find one that matches your kitchen. Searching for the right design can be a time consuming task though.

Overall, buying a new apron sink doesn’t have to be difficult but it can take time. You should be willing to spend a day or two searching for a new sink on order to ensure that you make the right investment.

If you are like most people, you find that keeping your bathroom neat and organized is not an easy task. It seems that as soon as you straighten it up, it’s messy again. Part of the difficulty, of course, is that you just do not have enough room to store everything. That is why a shower caddy can be one of the most useful weapons in the fight to keep your bathroom clutter free. This important accessory is designed to keep all of your other bath and shower accessories – soap, razors, shampoo, etc. – in one place and within eqasy reach whenever you are bathing or showering. This not only makes your bathroom more organized, but safer as well.

There is a wide variety of shower caddies available for use in your bathroom. The simplest shower shelf caddy can be hung right on your shower head and features some combination of shelves, baskets and hooks enabling you to organize all of your shower accessories. These are typically available in either stainless steel or plastic. The advantage of the plastic caddy is that it is lightweight and won’t damage or scratch the tiling or fiberglass shower enclosure should it fall. The stainless steel caddy, alternatively, offers more durability and may also look more attractive depending upon your bathroom’s decor. While functionality should usually take precedence over style, you don’t want to ignore altogether how any accessory is going to look in your bathroom, whether it be a shower shelf, a soap dish, or even a ceramic toilet brush holder.

A portable mesh shower caddy is another popular option and are perfect for families where each member has their own set of personal shower accessories that they like to use. These can be brought into the shower and hung on the shower head, or on a hook if there is one on the shower door. When not in use they can be stored in a drawer or even a bedroom closet, significantly cutting down on the clutter in the bathroom. These portable shower caddies also make a lot of sense for students living in a dorm as well, as they make sure it an easy task to transport your shower supplies to wherever you might want to use them.

You will be amazed at how different and beautiful your bathroom will look just by replacing the old worn out vanity unit and mirror with a brand spanking new one. Most bathrooms today have a stand up shower and a stand alone vanity and sink. There was a time when people felt it was more important to concentrate on the type of bath tub or shower they chose. These days it is no longer the case. The type of vanity is also an important part of the decision process. If you are single and live alone then a one sink vanity will work great. However, if you are married then it is a good idea to put in a double sink vanity unit so you will both have your own area and mirror to get ready in every morning without stumbling all over each other.

When choosing a new vanity unit some of the more attractive ones are the light colored oak vanity units that fit in well with smaller bathrooms in need of additional space. The lighter color of the oak in the vanity and the frame of the mirror will make the room feel larger than it really is. An oak vanity unit is one of the more expensive to choose from but their beauty and the way they transform a room is unbelievable and well worth the money spent.

There are cheap vanity units available that are made with lighter colored materials besides natural wood. These cheaper vanities are just as beautiful as their more expensive counterparts such as those made of wood look plastic or pressed board material. You will be saving money but getting the same beautiful style added to the bathroom. You can shop for and find many different types and styles of vanities by shopping online or going to your local plumbing or home improvement stores. A new vanity unit will make your bathroom look like a totally different room and can be an inexpensive investment.

For many people, keeping the bathroom clean means a constant fight against nuisances like mildew and mold which arise on bathroom surfaces that are very difficult to get completely dry. Obviously, between the bathtub, the sink and the toilet bowl, a bathroom is a constant source of moisture. Even if you clean very regularly, surfaces get a daily onslaught of moisture, and it is very hard to prevent mildew entirely. One of the main tools you have these unsightly inconveniences is a bathroom ceiling heater.

A bathroom heater of this kind has a evaporative function because of the heat it provides. More importantly however, it lets you keep external windows open, or allows you to run vent fans to bring air in from the outside, without making the air in your bathroom uncomfortably cold.

It’s hard to overstate the importance of keeping a flow of air moving through your bathroom, because especially in colder climates, people might understandably keep windows to the outside closed for several months a year. Without bathroom heaters you face the prospect of a daily application of moisture to tile bathtub and even wooden surfaces, that will only lead to deterioration in the long run.

In this way, an additional function of keeping your bathroom warm is actually to reduce your remodeling expenses over the long-term. Having a way to warm air entering from the outside enables you to keep that bathroom window open, at least a little, reducing moisture on any item that is susceptible to mold and mildew, and this is going to save you money.

Bathroom ceiling heaters aren’t cheap, especially when you take into account installation. However, looking at it as a long-term expense that will keep your bathroom in good shape, as well as more pleasing aesthetically, should have you giving serious consideration to installing one. Remember too, it will be an additional feature of your home, which should you ever decide to sell will make even more of an impression upon potential buyer.

Travertine tiles might be just the thing you are looking for in your next home improvement project involving counters, floors, or walls.

The definition of travertine as listed in Wikipedia is: “Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, and/or geothermally heated hot-springs”.

The crystallized minerals are calcareous, or calcium-based typically. The impurities in the minerals deposits contribute to the unique color of the stone. The colors are randomly deposited throughout the stone, giving each one a unique design. The uniqueness of the design is one of the great things about travertine tiles, but variations in the stone can be a challenge for installation.

The stones are quarried and further processed. They can be cut into a wide variety of sizes and shapes. Travertine is often porous, so if a smooth stone is wanted, the pits and holes can be filled with epoxy and colored cement. However, one of the nice things about travertine is the irregular and organic appearence, so often it is just polished.

There are not too many large travertine quarries in the United States, and they are mostly in the west. Generally, North American stone is considered to be poor in quality, and the quarries do not produce too much. Italy was the main producer of travertine, and until a decade ago held a near monopoly. Italy is still in the lead, but countries like Turkey, Mexico, and Peru are now also producing good stone.

You could use travertine tiles or stones in a wide variety of ways. For example, you could use the stone in walkways, patios, and driveways, or as indoor floor coverings or counter tops. With a wide variety of finishes travertine can be used indoor or outdoors, is often less expensive than ceramic tiles or wood, and can last the life of your home when installed properly.

Bathroom taps are available in a wide array of styles, designs and finishes. Whether a home is traditional, contemporary, Art Deco, modern, classic or casual, bathroom taps can create drama and interest in the bathroom space. When choosing the right taps, consider how each tap, both sink and tub, will reflect light and enhance the overall beauty of the bathroom. Chrome bath taps are an extremely popular finish of bath taps because they’re so versatile in design that they can be a cohesive and eye catching addition to most bath decors. When remodeling, renewing or redesigning, chrome bath taps are a an increasingly popular option for discerning homeowners who are style motivated and money-wise.

Chrome bath taps come in a matte or brushed finish and in a shiny or polished finish. Both are very trendy choices and with the strides in making chrome a quality product that is resistant to scratching and other abrasive treatment, it’s become a budget friendly option that is not about to go out of style at any time in the near future.

Polished chrome bath taps are a classic finish that blend in most cohesively with a vintage style, 1920’s vintage look best of all however, still look terrific with contemporary bathrooms as well. This makes the polished chrome bath tap a very transitional finish. Brushed chrome bath taps are an updated version of the polished finish. Both are very versatile and depending on the faucet’s design, both can go well in just about every style home.

Choosing a metal finish for a bathroom tap takes consideration of how it will blend in or accent the finishes of the sink, backsplash and walls. Chrome bath taps are more than just great looking and durable, they are quite cost effective as well. Because of their fabulous looks and lower price, they have become one of the most popular choices in bath taps.

When searching for the best bath taps for your space, be sure to begin looking online. Many online retailers of bath accessories and plumbing supplies offer excellent customer service and professional knowledge and advice on choosing the perfect taps. Also, when it comes to chrome bath taps, expect to find a mind boggling selection available on the internet! With the best pricing and selection options, as well as great deals on low or no shipping costs, there’s no place better to shop than online from the comfort of your own home.
