Pendant lights are among the most attractive and even elegant ceiling light schemes available to homeowners and businesses alike. They are far more versatile than they appear at first glance. They can involve single, double, triple, or even quadruple light fixtures. Singles can be mounted individually or in pre-arranged or pre-manufactured arrays of as many as five. They can be suspended to varying heights and look right in any room or office even if they are not proper chandeliers.

They also come in varying shapes, styles, and sizes. Some such lights suspend from single tubes, with small to moderately sized light shades shaped as anything from flowers to upside-down drink flutes. Others involve shapely shields or circular or square-box shields surrounding two, three, or even four lights in pendant style, though far enough short of a chandelier. Some of the smaller lights come in single- or in two, three, or even four-in-one formations. Some of their shades or shields can be simple frosted glass, carved pattern glass, marble, and even Tiffany style.

The options are almost limitless. Some popular arrays include single pendants with small shades lined up and sized appropriately to align to archways above kitchen sinks or doorways; a row of four or five pendants, likewise with small shades, above a reception counter or home bar; a larger pendant shade shielding three or four lights and suspended on a very short tubing or chain from the ceiling in a bedroom or in a dining room. In addition, there are those featuring a longer shade for suspension over an entrance foyer.

The best news is that these lights do not have to be terribly expensive. Numerous outlet stores, including those of Lamps Plus, will sell pendant lights at prices well below normal retail prices. Some offerings at this writing include a Tiffany-style two-light pendant chandelier for approximately $299; a wide art-glass mini pendant in squared shade with four amber scroll-shaped supports for $129.99; or, simple, single-light bell, floral, vessel, and other shaped pendants in varying colors and patterns for prices under $100.

If you have a flair for trimming and accessorizing your home lighting, these lights can help you let your creativity shine.

Outdoor solar lighting is a great way to enhance the decor and safety of any landscape. They are made in many different styles and types of lighting to suit any need, concern, or outdoor decor.

Some use these lights as a decorator piece. They can be placed in gardens to add a nice whimsical touch. When used for this purpose, the homeowner will typically choose a dimmer light to add to the atmosphere instead of choosing a bright, more functional light. Garden lighting can come in the form of lamps or stake lights, which stand alone in the ground.

To enhance the safety of outdoor property without adding to the electrical bill, many homeowners choose to place a path of in-ground solar lights along walking paths. They can be placed just a few feet apart from each other to help people stay on the path and avoid any obstructions that may be in the way. These lights are beautiful and convenient.

Solar spotlights are also added to property, and can compliment the beauty of a yard in the nighttime. According to The Solar Lights Site, some people use them for only functional uses, while some use the lights to point out something in their yard. For example, some people will place the spotlight at the bottom of a tree and point the light so it is facing upward creating an eerie but peaceful effect.

A major advantage of having solar lights is the nonexistent maintenance price. They have no source of power other than the sun, so homeowners will not see a change in their power bill. Another advantage is safety. Not only will they increase visibility at night, but they also prevent break-ins. Burglars are less likely to break into a well-lit home.

After placement, outdoor solar lighting requires almost no maintenance. They come on by themselves, and they shut off by themselves. They are inexpensive, and suit any style. Solar lights are a great choice for any homeowner who wants to increase the safety of their property and save money at the same time.

Provide a perennial setting for the daily mail

If you are one of the many families that still have a street-side mailbox, then here is a few planting tips just for you. For some, the lowly mailbox may seem a surprising candidate for landscaping. But posted like a sentry by the driveway entrance, the mailbox is highly visible to visitors and passerby. And it is one of the few places on your property that you visit nearly every day. A simple, handsome planting can be made to be pleasant to the passing public and will reward you on your daily postal journey, as well as that of the friendly mail carrier.

Plantings around mailboxes too often suffer from timidity- having too few plants for too little space. This design makes a bold display, covering a good size area with color for many months. There are many long-blooming perennials that will be well suited to the hot, sunny, and often dry conditions that prevail by most street-side mailboxes.

Summer plantings can bloom with catmint and salvia to produce flowers from June into fall. Also, try planting feather reed grass and sedum for a striking appearance in late summer and fall. The sedum flowers mature to a rich russet color that beautifully complements the tawny foliage of the feather reed grass. In winter, when the perennials are covered with snow, the graceful dried leaves and seed heads of the grass continue to enhance the daily mail run. If you have a bench picnic table, you can take some of these ideas and use some of the same principles of design to enhance that area.

Despite the frequent visit, this is not a spot for a high-maintenance planting. These tough plants can survive under a pile of plowed snow and need little watering if you add a heavy mulch to the bed. In early spring, cut back the old stems of the perennials and grasses, sweep or gently rake away winter road sand and grit, and renew the mulch. Plants for this bed include: Karl Foerster feather reed grass, Autumn joy sedum, Blue wonder catmint and East Friesland salvia. Tips by yardandgardenrescue.com.

Any serious gardener who has taken stock of her garden and the gardens of her neighborhood – and who never wastes a vacation without visiting some famous garden somewhere on the planet – knows that a good garden statue can truly elevate a garden from the ordinary to the special.

Any garden deserved a centerpiece. It might be something along the lines of a dwarf apple tree or it might be an especially hardy blend of white and red rose bushes. It might be a garden fountain or even a garden pond, complete with circling koi.

But if you’re really shooting for the peak of tradition – consider making it a statue.

Directing your focus to garden statues – whether you are a build-it-yourself kind of gardener invested in DIY garden statues or a connoisseur of fine art who pays big bucks for statuary – can literally transform your garden into a work of art. This is where your green thumb becomes a green imagination. And if there is one thing that is true of all gardeners, they love to indulge their inner artist. Gardening is nothing if it not an art form.

And if you are being honest with yourself, don’t you want the kind of garden that makes people stand up and take notice?

Don’t rush into purchasing your first garden statue. Start your search right at home – right in the garden itself. Pull up a lawn chair, grab a pad of paper and maybe a nice cool pitcher of lemonade and see what you’ve got. Take notes. Would the Hydrangea bushes look better with a pair of marble lovers between them? Does the birch tree need a cheerful Buddha statue at its base?

Look at pictures of other gardens – invest in a couple of good gardening books and magazines. Take a tour of your neighborhood. If you are not already part of a local gardening group, join one. Talk to people. How have they approached the issue of how to choose the perfect garden statue?

Remember – you are tapping into your inner garden wisdom here. You are expressing yourself as an artist. So take your time. Once you’ve found the right statue, you’ll be glad that you did.

Nowadays it is very easy to install lighting at the exterior of your home. You don’t need the help from an expert to create great, impressive effects because you can come up with ideas from the Internet or magazines about exterior decorating. Doing it yourself will save you a lot of money that you otherwise had to spend on a lighting decorator. However, if you consider doing it all yourself than there are some important things to keep in mind.

Choose the Types of Lighting

Probably the most important decision is what type of lighting you want for your home exterior. Are you planning to go for cheaper wired lighting or are you willingly to spend more money on solar lighting panels? Both are great options to consider but each of them have their pros and cons. Wired lighting is much cheaper to purchase but also more difficult to install because you have to connect them to the electricity network. Compared to solar lights they need electricity but they are not dependent on sunlight and are more bright too.

Location

What types of lighting you need will off course be dependent on where you will need them. If you are planning to go for walkway lighting than solar lights are not your best option because they are not bright enough. But if you are planning to lit your garden landscape or patio in order to create a rustic or romantic effect than solar lights will do the job.

If you want to illuminate your driveway than you can use both options. Solar driveway lights are not as bright as wired lights, but they are bright enough to lit your driveway in a way to let you know where you are going. A good option would be to combine both options and use wired lighting for your driveway and go for solar lighting for your driveway.

Safety & Security

Solar lights are mostly used for improving the aesthetics of your home exterior. When you are planning to increase the safety around your house than you could best use wired lights. Spotlights connected to motion detectors are an excellent way to save electricity and makes you aware of approaching visitors at the same time. They are a thief worst nightmare and will also lower the chance on burglary.

A good garden-based urn has plenty of uses – you can use them to decorate a garden, house unusual flowers. They can even be bird baths!

But one use for garden urns that doesn’t get an awful lot of attention is using them to set up portable herb gardens. Placed in pots and vases, these small “miniature gardens” can be set throughout your larger garden, providing a pleasing array of sights and smells to compliment the existing greenery.

Most herbs do not present any particular challenge even to the newest of gardeners. In fact, compared to plenty of flowers and shrub that you see on a day to day basis, herbs can be said to pretty much tend to themselves.

Still, when starting out with herbs, you want to be careful about what goes where. Some herbs thrive in the presence of others, while some can be simply overwhelmed. Consult one of the many good herbal guides on the market or, if you’re lucky enough to have one, a nearby herbalist.

Like any growing thing, herbs need good soil. A few scoops from your garden supplemented by compost is excellent. Home grown compost is always ideal, but you can also find suitable substitutes at your local garden supply store.

Pick a garden urn that’s a good foot in diameter. At that size, even if it seems small, you can still plant a good-sized functional little herb garden. Have fun with it. Perhaps you want to try a Greek theme – plant some thyme and basil. Then locate the container near your tomatoes. Call it your Mediterranean garden corner!

Larger pots and vases will also work, although be careful of filling them so heavy that you can’t easily move them around your garden. Small urns will also work although they will limit the amount of herbs you can grow.

If you are using clay pots, keep in mind that the sides will often leach moisture away from the soil, thus keeping it from the plant. Clay and terra cotta urns tend to dry out the potting soil faster than their wooden counterparts. Some herbs will do just fine with this, but others won’t. Know what your particular herb need and be sure to pay attention to it as it grows!

What is something that happens to every household over time? We run out of storage. Sure we try to stay organized and try to clean up every now and then, but we always seem to lose. Something that can help is an indoor wooden bench.

An indoor wooden bench is a very versatile piece of furniture. Fist of all it serves as a bench. This can be used in a hallway, kids room or TV room for example. They are simple and can be inexpensive to buy.

The versatility comes in when your combine a bench with storage. Using a wooden storage bench adds function to form. This will accomplish 2 things. It will remove some of the clutter we all have in our house by having a place to store it. No more just tossing something in the closet, place it in the bench storage so you know where it is and no more closet mess. So not only does it help cure the clutter/storage mess, it provides you with additional seating. This is great when you have a party or company or especially for thanksgiving when you always seem to run out of chairs.

Wooden storage benches can be used in many different rooms of your home. You can use it in your entry hallway as a storage area for shoes, sneakers and boots. Most people I know use them to store their winter boots. This frees up room in the closet. You may want to use it as a season storage area. For winter use it for boots and for the summer, store sandals and sneakers in them. Not only do you have place to store your seasonal footwear, you also have a nice place to sit when you put your shoes on.

Check around your house and see your cluttered areas. Your solution to that clutter just might be a wooden bench.

Are you tired of only having fruits and vegetables in summer and fall and would like to have them year round but do not know how? If this sounds anything like what you are experiencing then you might want to consider setting up a indoor growing station so that you can grow tomatoes and other great tasting fruits and vegetables. This article is going to be focusing on setting up a simple but effective grow light set up that will supply your plants and trees with great artificial sunlight all year round.
The first thing that we need to do is gather up some basic materials that will help us. The first thing that we need is a grow light. This is a light that puts out light similar to that out sunlight, I would recommend using a Led grow light. Led grow lights are some of the best types of lights to use because they do not get very hot and they draw very little power. The next thing that we are going to need is an area that is out of the way and not visited much by small children or bored pets as these are some of the biggest problems that people that have with growing their plants inside. The next thing that you are going to need is some sort of container to hold your plants and some quality potting soil. There are many other things that you could add such as reflectors and timers and etc but for simply keeping your plants going through the winter or starting out new seeds out.
Now that we have all of the materials, it is now time to set up our area. The first thing that you are going to want to do is put your container in the area that you have previously picked. Next place either your plants or seeds in the container and give a good thorough watering. After doing this place your lamp of the garden container and about twelve inches away from it. this is it as far as the set up is concerned, and all that you have to do with the lighting is turn on the light when you wake up and turn it off when you go to sleep.

To show off that beautiful garden that you’ve worked so hard to achieve, having a garden light shining on it at night will keep it in view for 24 hours. A garden light is also a practical yet attractive safety feature to have to keep intruders away from the home.

There are many different styles and varieties of garden lights. These lights don’t always have to be near a garden. They are just fine for keeping outside the home and even adding different shades of light on the home. Not only will this dress up the house, it will be the talk of the neighborhood.

One form of garden light that is popular, is the mushroom-shaped dome standing on a pole that is 7 inches to approximately 12 or 13 inches tall. This are made mostly of copper with different artistic domes on the top. These lights are perfect to line the sidewalk or pathway, and even can be used around a particular flower garden for decoration. The domes may come with inlaid jewels and are in many different shades of color. A 20 watt lightbulb should be the maximum for these types of lights.

A plainer spotlight, yet perfect for highlighting the outside of the house, mailbox, flagpole, garden, deck and many other outside places, are the spotlight styles. These may come in aluminum or copper. There is even a cannon-shaped light that is perfect for showing off the trees on the property, and even protecting the gate entrance, driveway, and swimming pool. These particular lights would use a higher wattage of 75.

Another type of light that is seen a lot outside of homes is the short pagoda light. These are also perfect for pathways or sidewalks and can also be placed alone in a certain corner of the yard or garden. The torch style light is another light that is frequently seen and used the same way as the pagoda. Some of these lights may have the shape of a pineapple or bell on the top to create a particular theme. Many of these lights are also perfect to be used also around the swimming pool.

Mini aluminum well lights are wonderful to use beside a pond and will keep anyone from accidentally stepping into the pond after dark.

Whichever garden light is chosen, it will be a beautiful addition to the outside of the home and the home itself.

Organic foods are becoming more and more popular since they are produced without using pest control products and other chemicals. Organic foods are becoming more common in food stores and many people are switching to them. Another factor contributing to the fame of organic foods is the mode in which they are grown. One of the means by which organic foods are grown is hydroponics, which is a method of growing food without the use of chemicals.

Not only does hydroponic gardening eliminate the need for pesticides but also reduces the amount of water required to make the plants grow. The only major obstacle hydroponics farmers face is getting hydroponic nutrients, which are among the most important requirements in hydroponic gardening.

You will need the correct type of hydroponic nutrients should you make a decision for using hydroponics to grow your fruits and vegetables. Since traditional fertilizers do not have the hydroponic nutrients required for hydroponic gardening, they can never be used. Plants grown in the soil get their nutrients from the soil itself while in hydroponics, the plants need to be supplied with hydroponic nutrients.

Proper nutrients are required for any plants grown through hydroponics to survive. However, not all organic hydroponic nutrients will be a solution for your garden. It is advisable to make sure your preferred hydroponic nutrient solution is compatible with your hydroponic garden.

While researching on the hydroponics topic, you will realize that inorganic nutrients are more suitable options. You might have to test a variety of hydroponic nutrient solutions before you find the most appropriate formula for your plants. Organic hydroponic nutrients are also relatively expensive as compared to inorganic nutrients.

Apart from the fact these plants neither require chemicals or pesticides; hydroponic plants have bigger harvests as compared to traditionally produced plants. Using hydroponic nutrients to grow plants does not limit you to the type of plants you desire to grow.

Hydroponic nutrients do not leave behind harmful deposits that contaminate the soil and degrade the environment, since there is no soil involved. When using hydroponic nutrients for your plants, not only are you contributing to soil conservation but you will also give the plants the close attention they need.
