How to design Edinburgh kitchens that work
Kitchens in Edinburgh are not a one-size fits all. Each kitchen design takes in several factors and the kitchen design is drafted from there.
These factors are the size of the kitchen, the shape and how the kitchen will be used. The place to start is the kitchen size. Measure the walls and put the measurements on paper. Walls can be moved, however, it is time consuming and very, very expensive. Most people prefer or need to leave the walls where they are. If you can use the same wiring and plumbing, you will save time and money.
Once you know the size of the space you are working with, locate where the hob, fridge, microwave and sink will go. When you start the kitchen design, it is easier to start with the sink, food preparation area and hob. Make sure the distance between these is not too large. Then place the fridge and make sure this works for you. Placing the fridge near the main entrance allows others to quickly grab drinks or snacks. The longest unit is usually the sink, drainer and dishwasher, so put that in first.
The kitchen shape depends a lot on the space. The four main shapes for Edinburgh kitchens are galley, two-way kitchens, and L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens.
Galley kitchens are along one wall and need to be designed carefully to include enough storage and worktop space. Two-way galley kitchens have two counters facing each other. Be sure to leave enough room to fully open your oven and dishwater.
The L-shaped kitchen gives a lot of storage area and still leaves an open space for a dining table. The corner space can be used for deep storage. The U-shaped kitchen gives a lot of worktop and storage. It is a more enclosed space with less floor space. One leg of the worktop could double as a breakfast bar and opens the room up.
The next item to consider in kitchens in Edinburgh is the use of the kitchen. The kitchen is the centre of the house. Consider your lifestyle to have a kitchen design that works for you. A kitchen of a family is different than of a single person who eats out a lot. Think about storage space you need, the things you have, and work around this.
A well thought out kitchen design makes the kitchen installation easy for kitchen fitters.
