Consider Remodeling Instead of Buying
Have you put your plans for finally purchasing your dream home on hold due to the economic crisis that has all but brought the real estate market to a standstill? With all of the new rules and convoluted red tape in place these days, are you willing to jump through all of the hoops required to qualify for a mortgage?
Although signs seem to indicate that we may have hit bottom and started to recover, many Americans have come to the conclusion that it would be far more prudent to stay right where they are rather than take the chance on trying to buy a new house. Fortunately, this does not mean you can’t have the home of your dreams. The only difference is that you will have to create it through remodeling and upgrades, rather than through a new purchase.
A common realization for many is that it isn’t really necessary to double or triple the size of a house. Effectively using your current square footage and spending your money wisely can often result in a house where you will be more than happy. Besides new appliances and counter tops in the kitchen and expanding the master bathroom to finally accommodate that Jacuzzi tub, probably the first thing most people want to do is rip out the carpeting and install hardwood or ceramic tile floors.
Not only is a flooring change a priority, it is also where a great deal of thought is needed. If in the living room of your dream home you have always pictured a solid oak floor or one of walnut or any of the other hardwoods, this is a part of your remodeling that is likely to still be there for years and years to come. Unlike a new wide-screen high-definition TV, those floors may well outlast you. If you’re not quite as sure as you thought, or if your budget won’t stretch quite that far, oak or walnut laminate flooring might be an option that you want to consider.
The real lesson is that many people are feeling frustrated that their plans have been put on hold. This doesn’t have to be the case. There are almost always options available to those who look for them.
